Freshmen Prepare for Upcoming Season

Head Freshman Coach Frank Bossu welcomed thirty young men to the football program on Friday evening as part of the Freshman Football team's pre-practice orientation. Coaches fitted helmets and assigned lockers before timing the player's forty-yard-dash. Players participated in basic position-based drills and concluded the practice with brief touch football games. The Freshmen team will open its season on Thursday, August 25 at University School.

Bengals Compete at Twinsburg Passing Scrimmage

After a summer of learning a new offense and defense, the Bengals performed well in a scrimmage with Twinsburg, Ravenna, and Elyria Catholic on Saturday. Defensively, Bryan Lacey and Jovon Dawson contributed exceptional play at Corner, and Chris Azzarello contributed two interceptions from the linebacker position. On offense, Quarterback Dan Piascik found receivers Marshall Howell and Mike Roberts for big plays, and Bryan Lacey, Owen Reilly, Anthony Oliver, Vince Calabrese, and Demetrious Scott, all made substantial contributions.

This week, the Bengals will be off as they prepare to begin two-a-days on Monday, August 1.

Bengals Conclude Youth Football Camp

Benedictine Coaches and Players concluded a four-day youth camp with a day of contests and games. The campers, a group of fifth through eighth graders, completed a "Combine-Style" circuit of drills and competed in touch football tournaments after three days of skill practice.

Coach Malbasa was impressed by the campers, the efforts of his own players, and the commitment of the coaching staff, saying, "the young men who came to camp brought great attitudes, and they improved their skills every day; in part, their efforts and improvements were the result of the enthusiasm of our players and coaches who ran the camp."

Benedictine Football appreciates the use of the facility at St. Paschal's and looks forward to hosting the camp next year on campus at the soon-to-be-completed Bossu Field.
